Geneva College Men’s Rugby Earns Playoff Berth as 8th Seed, Set to Face Top-Seeded UPJ.
Despite a challenging regular season, the Geneva College Men’s Rugby team has earned the eighth and final seed heading into the conference playoffs. Geneva will face the University of Pitt-Johnstown (UPJ), the No. 1 seed, in the quarterfinal round. A win propels Geneva to the semifinals, while a loss will mark the end of their 2025 campaign.
The Golden Tornadoes finished the regular season 0–5, but the record doesn’t tell the full story. The team battled through a season marred by injuries and the absence of several key players. As the weeks went on, however, Geneva showed steady improvement and resilience, particularly as players returned and younger members gained experience.
Several freshmen have stepped up this year, filling vital roles and helping the team find its rhythm late in the season. The squad’s progress was evident in their final regular-season match against Grove City College, where Geneva put together its strongest performance of the year - showing heart, cohesion, and attacking potential that had been building all season.
As Geneva prepares to take on UPJ, the team looks to channel that late-season momentum into their playoff match. With nothing to lose and everything to gain, the Golden Tornadoes are determined to finish the season with their best rugby yet.
The match will be played at the University of Pitt-Johnstown on Friday, October 24th, at 7:30 PM.
