Geneva College Men's Rugby hosted Duquesne University at Founders Field (Home of the Pittsburgh Harlequins) on September 6, 2025, falling 51–7 in their latest matchup.
Geneva held strong through much of the first half, trailing just 19–7 at the break. The Golden Tornadoes showed composure on defense and made positive progress with possession to keep the contest within reach. Geneva’s lone points came in the opening half from a penalty try, awarded after Duquesne was penalized on the goal line.
In the second half, Duquesne’s depth and size advantage became decisive. With Geneva carrying a smaller roster, fatigue played a factor as Duquesne steadily added tries and widened the margin. Geneva also struggled to generate sustained momentum on offense, with attacking stretches often stalling before they could develop into scoring chances.
Several Geneva players were making their first appearances with the club, and the team worked to find rhythm and cohesion against a solid opponent. Despite the result, the match provided valuable minutes for newcomers and competitive stretches for the group to build on moving forward.
Man of the Match: Daniel Thoman, Senior Fullback, had an outstanding match, making several key, try-saving tackles, as well as returning a handful of kicks from the Duquesne side. Dan's offensive runs and defensive tackling earned him the honor for the day.
Looking Ahead: Geneva College is set to face off against PennWest California at home in the second week of the Fall season. The next match will be played on Reeves Field at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 13th.
