Geneva College Men's Rugby traveled to the Slippery Rock University on September 14, 2026, following postponement due to thunderstorms the Saturday before.
Geneva came out ready to compete and battled hard throughout the match. The Golden Tornadoes did an excellent job containing the Slippery Rock attack through the opening 20 minutes and were the first team to put points on the board.
Nate McFarland provided the opening score in impressive fashion, evading several defenders and breaking away for a nearly full-field try. Charles Butler added the conversion to give Geneva the early advantage.
Slippery Rock responded with its first try shortly afterward and was able to build momentum as the match progressed. Despite SRU continuing to find the try line through the final play, Geneva continued to compete and showed plenty of positives throughout the evening.
Playing with limited numbers and several newer players unavailable, the Golden Tornadoes were once again forced to adjust across the lineup. Geneva continued to battle through the adversity, with a number of players gaining valuable experience against a strong Slippery Rock side.
McFarland added Geneva’s second try of the match with another impressive display of evasive running, and Butler converted again to account for Geneva’s 14 points on the night.
Man of the Match: Nate McFarland — 2 Tries
Scoring:
Nate McFarland (Sophomore Inside Center) — 2 Tries
Charles Butler (Junior Lock) — 2/2 Conversions
Geneva will look to build its numbers and put together a more complete performance this week as the Golden Tornadoes prepare for another ARU matchup.
