Geneva College Men's Rugby hosted the University of Pitt-Johnstown on September 19, 2026, at Founders Field, Home of the Pittsburgh Harlequins.
After trading scores throughout the morning, Geneva came away with a 33-26 victory. With both teams working through limited numbers, several players from IUP stepped in and played minutes for both Geneva and UPJ, helping ensure a full and competitive match.
Neither side was able to create much separation on the scoreboard, as momentum shifted throughout the game. UPJ continued to answer Geneva’s scores, setting up a close finish late in the second half. With the game still in the balance, Geneva was able to put together one final scoring effort and cross the try line for the deciding points. The late try gave Geneva the lead for good and secured the 33-26 win.
The victory was an encouraging step forward for a Geneva squad that continues to develop its newer players, build depth, and improve its overall team play as the fall season progresses.
Man of the Match: Charles Butler — Charlie earned Man of the Match honors after another consistent performance for Geneva. Playing in the forwards, he stepped up as a leader throughout the match while also providing valuable points from the kicking tee, converting four of Geneva’s five tries.
Scoring:
Nate McFarland (Sophomore Inside Center) — 3 Tries
Leo Devine (Junior Outside Center) — 1 Try
Noah (IUP) — 1 Try
Charles Butler (Junior Lock) — 4/5 Conversions
Geneva will look to build its numbers and put together a more complete performance this week as the Golden Tornadoes prepare for another ARU matchup.
